My mother in 1962 walking in Downtown Durham, NC, USA during segregation and the civil rights fight. Most of the stores she could not shop in. My mother had 5 children and my dad died in 1959. She was such a strong women.

AMOORE'S 1000 FEMALE VOICES a Art Ehibition and Lecture

I am slowly planning my art showing task. I hope to locate 1000 women who will join me as one of the subjects of this showing. It is in the planning stage then comes gathering information, getting sponsors and then creating a website for the participants to use as a repository for their thoughts, photos and daily diary(a private place for us to edit what will be public and not). I will provide a family tree(history area). Please consider and we can get acquainted while working.

THE PLAN:

Join me as a friend and model for my new body of artwork for 2010 to 2013. This exhibition/lecture will be based on 1000 women the true gift of and to the existence of life. My objective with this showing is to combine all my talents into one coherent and cohesive production. I need interesting people to tell their story of life as they see it and themselves with-in it. Their place in culture, work, society local and worldwide, life history through family
and friends. Basicly their biography and future as they intend it to be. This showing is meant to eventually bridge gaps between indivduals within themselves and within the human society and not a country (which is only another boundary put in place to prevent crossings in understanding). BOOK AND CURIO CABINET

This piece is number three of the six for my customer. The
damage due to the garage was less dramatic than its counter
part(sewing machine). The finish was original and 70%
easier to strip. The unusal or troubles with this piece
were only stains and veneer verses solid wood one absorbing
the stain more readily tan the other. The sand papers use
were 100Grit, 120Grit and 220Grit. The three(3) to four(4)
clear coat were sanded after drying with the exception of
the last and final. This piece will also be fetured on my

SECRETARY BOOKCASE

This project has six (6) pieces of furniture to be
restored. They are a secretary-bookcase, ladies small
secretary, bookcase-curio, cedar chest, sewing machine
cabinet and ladies vanity. I will highlight the process of
restoration of them and the materials used. The full

Refinishing, Restoration Wednesday, January 21, 2009DIY (do-it-yourself) is green livining ! If you are like me you grew up collecting old things and
wanted to see the extended usefullness of things and
people. As such, the purpose of this page is to allow my
readers to share ways of living green and their DIY (Do It
Yourself) projects. I will try to also include other sites,
companies, educational institutions, and site highlights
here (http://diyamooreartandantiques.com/). I wish we could
all live a little more down to earth just as most of the
adults, that I knew, once did. Just twelve years ago I told
friends and family that the day is coming when all of us
will have to reverse course and back up to more of an
agrarian society. I also predict that each middle class
family will need some type of home garden in order to more
easily and healthily feed themselves. I've even cut my
garbage by three-fourths just by religously recycling, and
composting my paper, wood, and kitchen cuttings. My cousin
Ivan is a religious recycler of metals and takes mine which
collects and sell to the recycling company for a small fee.
These are just a few of the win win situations I've found.
A pet peeve of mine is the collection of yard rakings where
insects, rodents, reptiles and other outdoor pests breed,
or when thoses rakings are packed up in bags for the city
to pick up which is added taxes for us. The best
alternative to these two messy solutions to yard waste is
mulching on top of the grown, composting or burying (to be
turned in the spring). Grass clippings are also an excelent
way to feed your soil or compost. I can't understand the
ignorance of the consumer learning curve over common sense.
Grass is ment to feed and moisterize it self when it fall
back on the roots and the same with leave of trees. After
working with marine aquariums I realize the companies are
selling me a myth of care taking all there advice was to
make me keep repurchacing and it all shortened the life of
my marine animals. I will write more soon and finish the
intial set up. Be patient with me please. I am setting up
four historical art exhibitions/lectures for February thru
April.

SEWING MACHINE AND CABINET

The Sewing Machine is the second(2nd) of six pieces of furniture for this customer. This cabinet was a 1940(late) to 1950s. The biggest problen with this period of furniture(commercial) is the thinner veneer can be sanded through easily. Also another problem with all of these pieces of furniture was warpping due to the customer storing them in a garage with concrete floors. People usually are unaware that lots of moisture migrates from the ground through the floor and the body of the furniture captures the moisture like a parachute effect. Then it lingers there warpping, causing veneer to separate and worse case rotting sets in. This piece had all these problems and a few more. It is extreemly difficult to predict your degree of difficulty. I gave a two-third(2/3) price reduction thinking there was very little repair and the finishes were original, but, this piece had a chop shop(negitive) finish added to cove the flaws. Once stripped they were revealled. This caused me to spend three(3) weeks stripping instead of two(2) days.I lost my shirt on this piece of furniture. Durham: A Tapestry of Diversity by Aaron Michael Moore III, Artist

The response to my showing has been exceptional. I feel extremely fortunant that my business has increased in part due to this exhibition, friends, family and my past accomplishments. I am receiving a new burst of creative energy and interest. I will over the summer open a new exhibition at Duke University also. The American Tobacco Exhibition includes my antiques, memorabilia and lectures. I hope more of you will visit the showing and include it on your blogs/websites. THE PROGRESS

My interests and passions have always been varied and, at most, eclectic. I've worked in various fields including banking and technology while maintaining my interest in art and antiques. After years of working in a traditional career path in these industries, I committed to my art full-time by relocating my family from Los Angeles to my hometown: Durham, North Carolina. In addition to the fine arts I also returned to my other passion, that of antiques and collectibles.
One of my first endeavors after moving back to North Carolina was to renovate and restore an old historic building (4,000 square feet) for an art studio, Amoore Art Studio. After opening the studio and displaying some of the antiques and collectibles I've amassed over the years, I found that there was a demand for my skills as a restorer, preserver and renovator. The art studio soon turned into Amoore Art and Antiques. The redirection to include antiques and collectibles led to eleven TV appearances regarding the topic and expanded my interest in making new furniture by recycling the old. It would be nice to end with "and the rest, as they say, is history", but like many things in life, that is not the case.
Like all great plans, they always lead you to other directions than what you intended. Failure is always an option in the best of plans, but I consider this not as a deterrent but rather a learning opportunity. I'm documenting my experiences, both mistakes and successes, in my DIY site.
The decision to move the art and antiques business from it's physical location to the internet was a long and arduous process but one that I believe is a well thought out and sound decision. This medium allows me more time and flexibility to devote and nurture the main focus of my business in the first place, art and antiques. By gifting my inner spirit the peace it needs to create, I believe my ability to create is further enhanced.
Amoore Art and Antiques is my attempt to educate, support and recycle, combining the past with the present. I'd like to share how one's soul can be fed by simply having the sense of existing - by being conscious of how we fit in our environment, our community, our relationships and life in general. Appreciation of the past is my way of connecting my present to the whole of my existence. I think you will probably find parts of yourself within my creations - be it in the art or the antiques.
